Vaud: To make their fortune, they gave 30,000 francs to a charlatan
A crook made two men promise quick enrichment thanks to his skills as a bank note multiplier. He fled with the victims’ money, 30,000 francs.

Greed and naivety still lead some to believe in wash wash. For Joao* and Paolo*, two managers of a tiling company, Soumaoro* was the guardian angel who would lead them to wealth as dazzling as it was magical. The French crook claimed to be capable of making his clients earn a lot of money through a simple sleight of hand due to alleged mystical gifts.
In July 2020, following a month of discussions with the charlatan, Joao and Paolo thought big. Indeed, the initial tests had revealed astonishing results: Soumaoro produced two new 100 franc notes each time he received one from his two future victims. Joao and Paolo decided to take the plunge.
Left on the run
An appointment was therefore made in a five-star hotel in Lausanne. Joao and Paolo gave Soumaoro thirty thousand franc notes. The capital would therefore go from 30,000 to 90,000 francs in a few minutes. But once he received the money, the wash-wash champion stormed out of the hotel.
Suspended sentence
The two pigeons’ company took legal action. But Soumaoro was already back in France, probably catching new victims in Switzerland. Heard by the French police, the charlatan denied everything. But he was confused by reservations in his name at the Lausanne hotel. He was sentenced by criminal order to a 120-day fine of 30 francs with a two-year suspended sentence and a fine of 700 francs.
The injured company will have to turn to civil justice to hope to recover the 30,000 francs taken away by the so-called bank note multiplier which turned out to be a multiplier of problems.
