The Pistons are close to making history — but the wrong kind.
Detroit’s loss to the Utah Jazz on Thursday extended its losing streak to 25 games, putting the franchise one defeat away from tying the NBA record for the longest single-season skid. Fans in attendance at Little Caesars Arena expressed their displeasure, chanting “sell the team” in the final minutes of the 119-111 loss. Some were shown on the broadcast wearing bags over their heads.
Detroit’s only wins of the season came on back-to-back days in October once morest the Charlotte Hornets and the Chicago Bulls. The 2010-11 Cleveland Cavaliers and 2013-14 Philadelphia 76ers hold the league record for longest single-season losing stretches.
The Pistons (2-26) face the Brooklyn Nets (13-14) on Saturday at Barclays Center.
Between the end of the 2014-15 and the start of the 2015-16 season, the 76ers lost 28 straight games, which stands as the NBA record for consecutive games lost. If the Pistons’ skid continues, they might match that number on Dec. 28 once morest the Boston Celtics and break it on Dec. 30 once morest the Houston Rockets.
