Mega Sena da Virada, or Mega da Virada; Why is this the most popular lottery in Brazil?
Almost every 365 days of the year there is a lottery contest running. However, it is December 31st that leads popular expectations. A special draw for the Mega-Sena, which has around 200 editions throughout the year, the Mega Sena da Virada is not so successful for nothing. Firstly, by not accumulating, it guarantees that the jackpot will be distributed – in the absence of anyone who hits the six draws drawn, the prize is divided between whoever hits the secondary lanes, in this case the corner and court, successively. Therefore, despite being one of the games with the least probability of success compared to Lotofácil, Quina or Dupla, for example, it is the game that receives the most bets.
As the Mega Sena da Virada prizes do not accumulate and have insurmountable values, the contest that takes place once a year promises a record prize of R$570 million in 2023
“Historically, the only lottery with prizes that come close to it is the regular Mega-Sena. Thus, due to the magnitude of the prize value, Mega da Virada has the potential to naturally attract more bettors to the game. This year, we had a 24% growth in the number of bets on Mega da Virada compared to 2022”, says Ricardo Hahne, commercial intelligence manager at Sorte Online. Check out the comparison of the numbers below that place Mega da Virada at the top of this podium.
