Before that, the politician had been caught in another turmoil: that of pipigate. The case stemmed from inappropriate behavior by three guests attending Van Quickenborne’s birthday party. The latter had urinated on a police van.
This Thursday, Het Laatste Nieuws made new damning revelations. Indeed, our Flemish colleagues, who rely on images and testimonies which have reached them, affirm that Vincent Van Quickenborne would not have respected the rules in force during the Covid period.
The images show the minister chatting with around fifteen people in a kitchen. We also see him on the dance floor. But back then, only eight people were allowed in at a time, and there were many more.
This gathering, on August 21, 2021 in a castle in Kortrijk, took place following the end of the “Kamping Kitsch Club”, a festival which was able to be held without restrictions because the 18,000 participants were able to prove, with the help of Covid Safe Ticket, that they were double vaccinated or had recently tested negative for coronavirus.
The day before the festival, the advisory committee decided to considerably relax the rules, but these relaxations did not actually take effect until September 1.
The then Minister of Justice reacted to our colleagues, recognizing “an error of judgment” and apologizing.
Note that HLN relied in particular on the statements of the Dutch businessman Salar Azimi, who reported in a book having participated in this “following party in the beautiful house of a notable person from Courtrai” and who claimed that the former minister Open VLD was there. The investigation subsequently carried out by our colleagues confirmed this version.
