Cycling Across Borders: Faiz Ashraf Ali’s Inspiring Journey to 35 Countries

Kochi: Faiz Ashraf Ali cycled to the 23rd country on October 12. A dozen more borders need to be crossed to reach the target of 35 countries. Faiz (36), an engineer from Kozhikode, has come home during the break for his follow-up visa. Bicycle in Hamburg, Germany. From there it is the distance to London.

20,670 km covered in the target of 30,000 km. The tour started from Thiruvananthapuram on 15th August 2022 and will be completed next July.

During the journey, he reached many campuses and embassies with the message of peace, health, drug-free and carbon-free. The bike is an American model “Furly” bicycle. It was assembled by his friend Abraham following bringing parts from abroad. He traveled with his wife Azmin and children Farzeen and Isin with full heart. They ride up to 175 kilometers a day. Staying with good friends in foreign cities. Tenting in villages. Food in tents is bread, dry fruits, etc. Five pairs of clothes in a bag.

In 2019, he crossed six countries and reached Singapore. The longer journey was brave enough to cover a distance of 8000 km in 104 days. Faiz, who was in Saudi Arabia, left work due to his father’s treatment. And it was only three years. The bicycle was bought to overcome disappointment through travel. In the meantime, I wanted to do something that would be marked. That is the motivation of world travel.

When the wallet is lost

He lost his wallet while traveling in Iran. For four days he was at the mercy of the Iranians. When he reached Armenia from there, an Indian he met lent him money.
