In order to ensure the transition to non-fossil energies, the use of biofuels is one of the ways to reduce CO emissions.2. The biofuels industry includes a range of processes to obtain, from various input sources (energy crops, lignocellulosic biomass, vegetable oils and animal fats, etc.), chemical compounds that can substitute for or be added to fuels from petroleum. Due to these new loads, processes used for oil refining have been adapted and new biorefining processes have been developed.
To ensure the reliability of equipment using these new technologies, the selection of materials resistant to these new environments that can be corrosive is necessary. This article aims to provide information on the different corrosion phenomena encountered in biorefineries and the means to protect once morest them by making appropriate choices of materials and/or anti-corrosion treatments.
New contaminants that may be present in biofuels (petrol, kerosene, diesel), during their transport, storage and combustion, corrosion damage and/or clogging of pipes, tanks, engines, turbojets may occur. Elements allowing suitable choices of materials and/or anti-corrosion and anti-deposit treatments are also discussed in this article.
