Emirati director and writer Saraa Abdulaziz Al Shehhi won the tenth session of the Fine Arts Award presented by the Abu Dhabi Culture and Arts Group, in partnership with Gulf Capital, and aims to support and enhance emerging Emirati talents and creative university students in the fields of visual arts.
The founder of the Abu Dhabi Culture and Arts Group, founder and artistic director of the Abu Dhabi Festival, Hoda Ibrahim Al-Khamis, said, “The Fine Arts Award from the Abu Dhabi Culture and Arts Group, in partnership with Gulf Capital, has reflected, since its establishment in 2013, the sustained commitment of both sides to supporting Emirati artists and arts students, and developing their skills in the arts.” Visual arts, art and filmmaking, and their contribution to empowering cultural industries and stimulating renewed thinking, by providing training, development, inspiration and guidance opportunities in celebration of the distinguished youth of the Emirates.”
She added: “Winning the award for director and writer Saraa Al Shehhi, a graduate of New York University Abu Dhabi, for her film (A Little Dream), highlights the great achievement embodied by the country’s vision of empowering women and making their voices heard by raising their issues and appreciating their ideas and their cognitive and societal contribution.”
Saraa Al Shehhi attracted attention early through the topics she addressed, which revolved around social issues and women’s affairs, which received a distinguished welcome in a number of platforms around the world.
Saraa obtained a Master of Fine Arts degree in film writing and directing from Tisch School of the Arts at New York University in 2019, and to her credit she has a number of films such as “An Open Wound” in 2015, “Burning Colors” in 2016, and “A Little Dream” in 2022. Which won awards and was shown in a number of festivals and cultural events around the world. She also participated as an artistic director in many films, and as a co-writer of a number of television works, and contributed to hosting the film laboratory at the Sikka Al Arts exhibition this year, which shows her passion for supporting and enriching the cinematic scene in UAE.
