WhatsApp is slowly starting to roll out a new feature that will make it easier for you to find a message received a long time ago.

Group conversations on messaging apps can last a long, long time and become interminable. While discussions organized to plan an event are generally shorter, this is rarely the case for endless family or friendly conversations. In this context, it can be very complicated to find an old message if you want to avoid scrolling endlessly to the top of the conversation.

It is in this context that WhatsApp has deployed a new functionality spotted by the site Android Police. Concretely, when searching for a message in a discussion on the Meta messaging application, you can now select a date in the search bar using a calendar icon. Once the search term and the date have been selected, you will only have access to messages sent precisely on the searched day.

A feature currently being deployed on a restricted basis

This feature was previously made available to some users in beta in early November, but now appears to be rolling out to more users.

For the moment, however, it seems that the search by date is only offered to certain users selected in AB testing, with deployment on the server side and not on the application update side.

However, the acceleration of this deployment seems to augur soon availability for all users. Furthermore, as Android Police points out, this functionality should arrive not only on the Android version of WhatsApp, but also on iPhone as well as on the web version of instant messaging.
