MILWAUKEE (AP) — Damian Lillard scored a season-high 40 points to raise his career total to 20,000, and the Milwaukee Bucks beat the Victor Wembanyama-less San Antonio Spurs 132-119 on Tuesday.
Giannis Antetokounmpo contributed a triple double on a night in which he might not fight his first duel once morest Wembanyama, who is suffering from pain in his right ankle. This was just the second game the 7-foot-3 rookie has missed.
“We’re not expecting this to be a long-term thing,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said of the absence.
Antetokounmpo added a career-high 16 assists and grabbed 14 rebounds. He scored 11 points, his fewest of the season, but had his 37th career triple-double and his second this season.
His other triple double came on December 2, in a win over Atlanta.
Lillard raised his career total to 20,034 points, becoming the 51st person in NBA history to reach 20,000 points. There are eight active players in the league with that number.
In his 794th NBA game, Lillard became the 17th fastest player to reach the milestone.
