New elements have emerged in the investigation into the death of Adil, a 19-year-old who lost his life in 2010 in Brussels, following a chase with the police. The new automobile expertise calls into question the theory of the accident, defended until now by the police. Three and a half years following the death of young Adil, new elements tend to demonstrate that the first expert report missed decisive details. This new information comes from a second expertise commissioned by the family.
The expert’s first conclusion indicated that Adil’s behavior was clearly wrong. However, the counter-expertise suggests the opposite. “She comes to the conclusion that Adil’s scooter was indeed traveling on his half of the road at the time of the collision, even if it was close to the middle of the road and it was the police car which was on the road. “other half of the road, obviously to make a voluntary blockade, according to his conclusions and that this is what led to the collision”explains Arthur Sente, journalist for the daily Le Soir, having examined the second opinion.
The events took place on April 10, 2020. Adil, 19, travels on a scooter in the streets of Anderlecht. It was around 9 p.m. when police officers from the Brussels Midi Zone chased him. A chase, which ends tragically on the Quai de l’Industrie, when Adil collides with an unmarked police car coming in the opposite direction.
The first report said the scooter’s headlight was not on. Information disputed by Philippe Engels, investigative journalist at Blast who viewed the images in the report. “The second opinion indicates that the position lights of Adil’s scooter were on, says Philippe Engels. This is clearly visible on surveillance videos. Since the initial expert has not looked at them, it is normal that he does not include them in his report.”
The family’s lawyer did not wish to react. The investigation will go before the council chamber on January 9.
