13 December 1998-December 13, 2023. 25 years since journalist Norbert Zongo and his companions in misfortune were cowardly murdered, on the road to Sapouy. A quarter of a century of quest for justice for this martyr of freedom of the press and opinion, and of human rights. His executioners and the sponsors of this crime wanted to silence a feather with the final solution. The one who revealed the assassination of David Ouédraogo, driver of President Compaoré’s little brother. This was without taking into account the aura of Zongo, and the sagacity of human rights defenders and journalists’ associations who continue to tirelessly demand justice.
To the lamp, whose flame illuminates the evenings of the press center, which bears his name, has been added a bronze bust which will now welcome visitors. A conference room there bears his pen name Henri Sebgo, and the Norbert Zongo Unit for Investigation in West Africa has set up its headquarters there. Norbert is therefore not dead, his work and his name shine in the four corners of the continent. His assassins placed him in the pantheon of martyrs of freedom, despite themselves. They have been tearing down the walls for 25 years, haunted by justice and the truth. This reprieve is already a sentence.
