As expected, Andreas Heraf will be the new coach of Bundesliga bottom team Austria Lustenau. The 56-year-old Viennese was until recently the coach of second division team SW Bregenz and was cleared to return to the upper house following an agreement with the Bregenz board. It was agreed not to disclose details of the deal. Heraf is supposed to save Lustenauer Austria, who were winless in the fall, from relegation and will initially receive a contract until the end of the season.
For Heraf it is a return to an old place of work, as he had already coached the Green-Whites in Vorarlberg from May 2003 to June 2005. Back then, he managed a great series with Lustenau, which is now also hoped for in 2024: As Lustenau coach, he remained without a home defeat in championship games in over two years.
“I’m really looking forward to the new challenge. For me, it’s a return following almost 20 years to a club that I have always valued very much and have continued to follow closely throughout all this time,” said Heraf, who is currently on vacation abroad . “Even if it seems a big challenge when looking at the table, we have relegation in our own hands and I am 100 percent convinced that we will achieve this goal by the end of the season.”
Lustenau separated from Markus Mader in November, and since then sports coordinator Alexander Schneider and amateur coach Momo Gerdi have looked following the team on an interim basis. The Vorarlbergers are at the bottom of the table with just three points from 17 rounds, eight points behind the penultimate WSG Tirol.
