Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival 2023: Honoring Women in Film

2023-12-19 11:05:00

The 46th international short film festival will be held from February 2 to 10 in Clermont-Ferrand. An edition that will honor women.

The world’s biggest short film event is back. Usual period. Craze too. Here is what we know regarding the films in competition.

International competition

66 films from 52 countries, 40% of which were directed or co-directed by women. 2023 has not been an easy year and on screen the characters “are also having a big time”. In response, the thirst for freedom flows in the middle of this 46th international competition. Flows in continuous flow, around the totem of this category: People have the powerde Patti Smith. Punk.

National competition

45 films including 9 animated and 2 documentaries. 46th national competition, entitled (RE) creating the world, an ephemeral canvas of cinema, will address “universal themes: first loves, mourning, unexpected and salutary encounters, desired or prevented departures, thwarted returns…”

Lab Competition

24 films from 23 countries, including 11 documentaries and 8 animated (as well as an intriguing experimental animation). Placed under L’Immémoire by Chris Marker, this 23rd lab competition offers films “that are both vibrant, engaged, and very much in their era”.

Virtual reality

Present for years, VR films, rich in technological advances, now have their own competition. On your masks.

But also…

Two closely linked retrospectives will highlight portraits of strong women from the country in the spotlight which, this year, will be an entire continent: Europe.

Prices. From now on, the single ticket will cost €4.50 (instead of €4 since 2020), the traditional book of 15 tickets will increase from €35 to €40 (i.e. €2.70 per seat), price which had not changed since 2013.
