Sean Monahan was all fired up at the start of the season, but things calmed down following that for the veteran.
The one we like to nickname “Mony” in Montreal is having a roller coaster season: he has six points in his last six games, which is interesting…
But Monahan also went three weeks (November 12 to December 2) without blackening the scoresheet before his recent positive streak.
All this to say that Monahan’s offensive production has been inconsistent this season.
The center player has a contract that benefits the Montreal Canadiens. His deal, worth $1.985 million for the current season, does not complicate Kent Hughes’ job and is excellent for what Monahan brings to the ice.
Obviously, like last year, there will be rumors regarding #91. He has a good contract, he has experience and he still has more to give in the tank… but the club might also want to keep him for the longer term.
Kent Hughes will therefore have an important choice to make. Especially sincelatest news (David Pagnotta)the Montreal organization is open to the idea of offering him a contract extension:
The Fourth Period reports that the Habs might be interested in a contract extension with Sean Monahan.

Monahan demonstrated that he had a certain importance in the training of Martin St-Louis.
The fact that he is versatile and able to play center AND wing allows the Canadiens head coach to place him almost anywhere in the line-up.
But above all we must question whether Monahan has the potential to help the team in the years to come. He has performed well since his arrival in Montreal, when he is healthy…
Does he still have enough juice to be an impact player for the Canadiens for the next two, three, even four years?
The Canadiens might trade him before the trade deadline to take advantage of his value on the trade market before offering him a new contract next summer. It would fit with Kent Hughes’ vision, in the sense that the CEO is constantly looking to improve his club’s resources…
And that would allow the Canadian to seek some kind of return, despite the uncertainty that constantly reigns in terms of his state of health.
It’s an option.
