Eavesdropping device found in Ukrainian military’s office amid tensions between top brass and president

(Central News Agency, Kyiv, 17th AFP) A bug was found in the office of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Zaluzny, who has tense relations with Ukrainian President Zelensky, but Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) said today that the device was not In operation.

Ukraine’s latest counteroffensive has failed to make significant gains in the east and south of the country and it is struggling to maintain Western support for its war with Russia.

“We would like to emphasize that the equipment discovered so far was not found in Valery Zaluzhny’s office, but is just one of the workplaces that Zaluzhny may use in the future,” a statement from the Security Service of Ukraine said.

“According to preliminary information, the equipment found was not in an operational state,” it added.

“At present, this device has not been found to have functions such as data storage or remote audio transmission. This technical device will be sent for testing.”

Ukrainian and foreign media have reported tensions between Zaluzny and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in recent months.

Zaluzny said last month that the conflict with Russia had reached a “stalemate,” an assessment rejected by Zelensky and the Kremlin.

Since February 2022, Ukrainian troops have been fighting the Russian army that invaded Ukraine.
