I believe many of my friends use Excel at work, but did you know that this productivity software can also be used for “e-sports”? In the 2023 Excel World Championship, Andy Ni, a data analysis expert from Australia, once once more won the championship and won a prize of US$3,000 (approximately HK$23,394.52).

This year’s Microsoft Excel World Championship has just concluded successfully in the American casino city of Las Vegas. The competition was broadcast live on Twitch, YouTube and ESPN at the same time. This year’s championship title and US$3,000 prize money continue to be won by last year’s champion Ni Ande. Andy Ni is a data analysis expert from Australia.

The Excel World Championship assumes a case every year, and contestants need to use the functions in Excel to solve this “case”. For example, the case in this year’s finals is regarding shuttle production and provincial mining. The competition is divided into 3 parts, each part is 30 minutes. The competition is centered on the use of Excel skills, but there are still different sound and light show elements to make the audience excited. This year’s competition was attended by Excel trainers Jon Acampora and Oz du Soleil as narrations to explain the competition.

This year’s competition has added a new schedule, that is, the contestant with the lowest score will be eliminated 7.5 minutes following the start of the semi-finals. However, a system failure caused the referee team to eliminate Ni Ande by mistake. Afterwards, the referees held a meeting to discuss and attributed the error to a computer failure, and re-invited Ni Andre to return to the game. Nee completed the extra point question at the end of the game, leading the following contestants by 196 points. Nee himself took off his headphones with half a minute left in the game and sat back with his hands spread out waiting for victory.

In fact, the Excel World Championship has existed for more than 10 years, but ESPN only started broadcasting this event last year.
