The native app Photos (Photos) lets you keep all your photos and videos captured on your Apple devices that are using the same Apple ID — thanks to iCloud.
We have already given, right here in MacMagazine, several cool tips to improve or optimize your use of it. Today’s one, although very simple, might be a good choice for those who enjoy having a broad view of their entire photo library.
More precisely, it is possible to change the way images and videos appear within an album or in the “Photo Library” tab.
See, in practice, how to change between views “Proportion Grid”which shows the media in the format in which they were designed or created, and “Square Photo Grid”which keeps them all in the same square format, regardless of their shape.
How to change photo format on iPhone/iPad
Open the Photos app, select an album or tap the “Photo Library” tab and then go to “All Photos”.
Then, tap the three dots (in the top right corner) and choose “Proportion Grid” or “Square Photo Grid”.
How to change photo format on Mac
On Mac, the process is similar. However, when opening an album or browsing your photo library, go to the “View” menu and click on “Square Photo Grid” or “Proportion Grid”.
Optionally, on macOS this toggle can also be done using the shortcut ⌥ option T.
