The presidency of the ALCS – Casablanca section indicated that thanks to rigorous treatment, patients carrying the virus become non-transmitters and can thus live a “normal” life, since HIV has become a chronic disease like others. “It is thanks to this type of screening awareness campaigns that the association can reach these people, in the hope of stopping the chain of transmission,” she said.

According to estimates from the Ministry of Health in 2022 (published in 2023), the prevalence was 0.07%, while 21,600 people were living with HIV and 22% of PLHIV (People Living with HIV) were unaware of their serological status, or more than one in 5 people. Morocco has recorded notable progress in the fight once morest HIV. It is one of the few countries in the Middle East and North Africa region to have reversed the upward trend in the number of new infections. Thus, the Kingdom reduced new infections by 50% between 2010 and 2022, and also reduced the number of deaths by 59% over the same period.

As a reminder, the ALCS is the first and most important association fighting HIV in Morocco and in the North Africa and Middle East region. It is involved in the prevention of HIV infection and viral hepatitis, access to care linked to these viruses as well as the medical and psychosocial care of people living with HIV.
