Tijuana.- Derived from the increase in demand for greater spaces in careers related to Medicine and Gastronomy, the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC) would expand enrollment for these careers in the next calls.
The rector of the UABC, Luis Enrique Palafox Maestre, said that they are contemplating building a building in the Faculty of Tourism and Marketing for the Gastronomy degree, one of the most in-demand on the Tijuana campus.
“There is a glimpse of an increase in the enrollment offer for the Gastronomy educational program, but we have not yet quantified it,” he indicated.
Around 900 new entry tokens were delivered in the last 2023-24 call, but only 90 of them can be selected, that is, only 10%.
Another of the great challenges that the University has pending is the demand at the state level for enrollment in Medicine courses, commented Palafox Maestre.
He pointed out that they are analyzing the possibility of continuing to increase the offer in Nursing, Dentistry and particularly Medicine careers, to open more clinical spaces.

The rector mentioned that the University Center for Health Education (CUES), a space donated by state authorities and previously the Government Center, opened 1,070 places for Medicine courses in 2022.
“The demand for Medicine courses exceeds the offer that the university has, particularly in the area of Medicine, nearly three thousand applicants in the last call did not get a place,” he noted.
This despite the fact that the UABC is one of the public universities that offers the most spaces in this career at the national level, only behind the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL).
