A sedan collided with an SUV from Joe Biden’s convoy on Sunday in Wilmington (Delaware), causing a loud bang. The presidential vehicle was positioned at an intersection near the campaign headquarters, regarding 40 meters from Biden. Officers immediately stopped the silver car, registered in Delaware, and pointed their guns at the driver.

Security personnel immediately rushed the president into a waiting vehicle and took him away from the building located in the center of the city. “The president and first lady are doing well,” a White House official said. Gathered on the sidewalk in front of the campaign offices, where the Bidens had dined with their team, journalists had just finished questioning Biden when the sound of the collision rang out. An expression of surprise then appeared on the president’s face.

The journalists were quickly rounded up by staff to join the convoy which was leaving the scene in the rain. “They are evacuating, you need to leave,” a staff member told reporters as security personnel secured the area. Biden arrived safely at his family home without further incident.
