A listening device was discovered in one of the future offices of the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army Valery Zalouzhny, the Kyiv security services announced on Sunday, while specifying that the device was “not operational “.

“The equipment was not found directly in Valery Zaluzhny’s office, but in one of the premises that he might use for his work in the future,” Ukrainian services clarified on Telegram.

An investigation was opened for “illegal use of special technical means to obtain information”, they added without putting forward any leads on the origin of this listening device.

“The device found was not operational. No data storage or remote audio transmission devices were found. This technical device will be sent for examination,” the Ukrainian services further indicated.

As commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian armed forces, Valery Zaluzhny decides on the overall course of operations on the front, under the authority of President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Ukrainian and foreign media have reported in recent months growing tensions between Mr. Zelensky and Mr. Zaluzhny, once morest a backdrop of the failure of the summer counter-offensive by Kyiv’s forces and the crumbling of Western support.

Ukraine has been facing a Russian invasion since February 2022.
