This Monday, the project for a new federal tax on the assets of non-profit organizations – unveiled last April by Minister Vincent Van Peteghem (CD&V) – will be the subject of a proposed motion discussed in the General Affairs Committee of the Parliament of the Federation Wallonia-Brussels.
Submitted at the beginning of November by Les Engagés, this text proposes to the Parliament of the French Community to recognize “that its interests are seriously harmed by the bill” coming from the federal government and to ask the House of Representatives “to suspend the procedure”.
As a reminder, this tax imposed by the federal government on non-profit organizations is “a compensation tax for inheritance taxes which, in the case of a legal entity, cannot be claimed”, we can read on the website of the FPS Finance.
During the October 2022 conclave, the federal government and its Minister of Finance proposed replacing this “asset tax” with the establishment of a progressive levy system. If the measure should benefit small-scale non-profit organizations, it risks, on the other hand, weighing heavily on the finances of the largest. Enough to provoke the ire of the Engaged.
In November, the Parliament of the Brussels-Capital Region adopted a similar motion, the PS-Ecolo-DéFI majority, supported by Les Engagés, having positioned itself in favor of the text on which the MR abstained.
On the other hand, this same motion was rejected last week in the Parliament, this time, of Wallonia! Ecolo, the PS and the MR spoke once morest the text during the plenary vote on Wednesday evening.
The fate reserved for the motion presented this Monday in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation therefore promises to be enigmatic: PS and Écolo voted in favor of the text in Brussels, but once morest it in Wallonia…
