The Cuban gardener Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and the D-backs have agreed to a three-year deal, a source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand on Sunday.
The agreement, which has not been confirmed by the team, would be US$42 million, sources told Feinsand.
After a trade from the Blue Jays to the Snakes, Gurriel’s campaign was on par with the numbers so far in his career, although his slugging percentage saw an uptick following a notable decline in 2022, from .400 to .463 .
After a season in which he hit a career-high 24 home runs to help the D-backs reach the postseason, Gurriel helped Arizona get on a surprising run to the World Series by batting .273 with three doubles, three home runs, 11 RBIs and two steals in 17 postseason games.
