The Windows 11 cumulative update KB5033375 from December Patch Tuesday fixes numerous bugs including a problem that is more than a year old. It concerns File Explorer.
Microsoft has taken its time to provide a solution to an issue affecting probably one of Windows’ most popular applications, File Explorer. We had to wait more than 15 months before a patch arrived in order to resolve a problem reported by many users since October 2022 following the release of Moment 2.

The application is experiencing strange behavior. Without explanation, it causes it to suddenly open to the foreground while performing an activity unrelated to its duties. This bug is annoying because it can occur at random intervals and many times per day. It is not linked to any application or program. For some it has even become a “nightmare” seriously affecting productivity. Additionally, this symptom may suggest that the PC has been hacked and that someone is trying to open files.
