July 2021, on a Sunday morning, Chantal Clair, a French teacher at college, on vacation with friends in the Lot, suddenly suffered a stroke. She described the different stages of her care journey in the book Maman a un AVC published by Maïa, in which she testifies and recounts, under the name of Aline, her experience as a hospitalized patient facing this event which will disrupt her life. life. Encounter.

What were the reasons that pushed you to write this book?

I would have liked to have been able to read regarding this kind of experience when I was confronted with it. Also, by writing this story, I wanted to share this adventure to say that the hope for a better tomorrow must guide us in our thoughts and our actions.

How did you approach writing your story?

In fact, I intended it as an autobiography in that the story is completely true. However, because I imagined surnames, certain facts, characters, reactions or feelings, this book is fiction. So, the only portmanteau word that suits this writing is autofiction.

In the story, you come back to certain attitudes, depending on the places of stay,…

I wanted the reader to better understand this disease that happens to relatively young and healthy people. But I also wanted to make the reader experience the horrors of a hospital stay, with its joys and sorrows, its rites and its habits that are often ignored. Stripped of any personal items, decked out in this blue shirt open at the back, I just felt like a medical object. However, overall, following stays in various health establishments, it appears that the workers are professional. Of course, there are individualities, the pressure of time is lacking, but it was with pleasure that I found the smile, the kindness of the caregiver who is closest to the patient on a daily basis.

Your family, your loved ones, your friends have been an undeniable support…

Of course, first of all, my husband, my children, very attentive who gave me the strength and fighting spirit necessary. My friends, through the messages they sent me and which I quote in the book, contributed to my recovery. Today, I have changed things, I live day by day but above all, always with the affection of my loved ones and the hope of tomorrow.
