CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Joel Embiid had 42 points and 15 rebounds, and the Philadelphia 76ers handed the Charlotte Hornets the worst beating in franchise history, winning on Saturday by 135-82.

Tyrese Maxey added 21 points to the cause of the 76ers (18-7). Single-handedly, Embiid outscored the Hornets in the first quarter. Philadelphia built a 29-point halftime lead and never came under pressure.

The worst loss the Hornets had suffered dated back to January 10, 2000, when they lost by 50 points to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Charlotte played without three starters: LaMelo Ball, Gordon Hayward and Mark Williams. He also lacked two key substitutes: PJ Washington and Cody Martin.

And in the third period, they lost their best scorer Terry Rozier, who took an elbow to the nose. Rozier, who averaged more than 28 points in his previous seven appearances, was not officially ruled out, but he also did not return to the game.

Brandon Miller led the Hornets (7-17) with 14 points, despite shooting just 4 of 16 from the field.
