BVB once once more dropped two important points once morest FC Augsburg. After the final whistle, the Dortmund team was quite self-critical, but they also saw the referee as sharing responsibility for the result.

It was the excitement in the first half: In the 23rd minute, Augsburg’s Ermedin Demirović prevailed in a tough duel once morest Nico Schlotterbeck and seconds later scored the 1-0 for the outsiders. The Augsburg man’s effort was borderline, at least in the eyes of referee Dr. Matthias Jöllenbeck did not break the rules.

However, BVB striker Niclas Füllkrug assessed the scene completely differently. In the “Ruhr Nachrichten” interview he spoke of a “difficult goal conceded” and said: “If you look at the last ten games, the fouls I get whistled for when I just put my hip in. And then that won’t happen today whistled.”

Füllkrug criticizes BVB’s ball losses

In his opinion, Schlotterbeck was “very, very far ahead” in the duel and “clearly the first to get the ball”. Demirović had “no chance” at all of getting onto the play equipment, “except with a foul,” said Füllkrug. Schlotterbeck simply fell down “out of nowhere,” complained the striker, who saw the scene as just one of several sticking points for the final result.

Füllkrug recognized another construction site in the black-yellow game. “It’s obviously difficult when you keep losing the ball as you move forward, which hurts. Then of course you think, should I play the ball once more into the dangerous, narrow space,” the national player demanded of his team “more ball security, “fewer ball losses and more cleanliness in the final third”.

Kehl announces analysis following the next BVB game

The fact that BVB only got one win in the last seven games was “of course” not enough, Füllkrug admitted. “That’s definitely not our claim. That’s definitely not what we have to achieve in order to achieve our goals. And that’s why we have to deal with it critically.”

Meanwhile, sports director Sebastian Kehl promised a critical review of the first half of the season in a “Sky” interview. There the ex-professional said: “We will draw a conclusion following Mainz and analyze things.” Above all, one should not “lose sight of” qualification for the Champions League, warned Kehl, who said he was “disappointed, angry and frustrated” following the final whistle.
