The Rise of Pink Cocaine and Pregabalin Misuse: Insights from OFDT Report

They are nicknamed “the poor man’s drug” or “the pink”. Two new substances passed into the hands of French consumers this year, highlights a latest report from the French Observatory of Drugs and Addictive Tendencies (OFDT).

The first looks like a sour candy but is in fact a colored powder to snort called “Tucibi”, “pink cocaine” or more rarely “Chinese coke”, although it contains no trace of it. The second is a drug to treat epilepsy, marketed under the name Lyrica and whose use has been widely misused: pregabalin.

A strawberry flavored drug?

Although pink cocaine only has the name in common with the stimulant made from coca leaves, it is in fact a cocktail of psychoactive substances, such as ketamine or MDMA (ecstasy) – in addition to cutting products ( caffeine, lidocaine,…
