Thanks to the agreement between the two intercommunal companies, a less expensive solution was found and major work is taking place this weekend near Abée (Tinlot). This involves connecting two infrastructures: one belonging to IDEN and the other to CILE.
“We have to dig 60 meters. We are regarding halfway there. I hope that for Sunday evening we will be able to take water directly from the CILE without using trucks. If we get to that, we will check still for safety reasons the circuits and we will be able to stop the cost of the trucks. We will stop the hemorrhage”explains Eric Cop, president of IDEN.
These security works between networks were in the pipeline: “There are two areas like this that we thought would be secure over a period of 7-8 years since we already experienced a water pollution alert in 2008 and we had already made a connection with the CILE on the Fraiture side. Here , we obviously made the decision urgently”explains Eric Lemmens, the mayor of Nandrin.
As for the future, it remains unclear. “There are several solutions. The first is activated carbon filtration of water with this level of PFAS. A second solution is to dilute this water to reduce the level of PFAS below 100 nanograms per liter. It is currently in the worst case at 130. And then the last solution is indeed to stay connected to the CILE all the time but that has a cost.” adds the mayor.
In these rural villages, we cannot explain this pollution which can come from a very small quantity buried anywhere. In any case, nothing to do with agricultural activity.
