Jakarta: Due to the increase in Covid cases, various Southeast Asian countries have imposed restrictions and made masks mandatory. Countries like Singapore and Indonesia have made masks mandatory. International passengers and nationals have been asked to wear masks compulsorily at airports.
Airports will also have temperature scanners as part of the inspection. “Several factors may contribute to the rise in Covid cases, including weakened immunity and increased travel and community interaction at the end of the year. Travel and the festive season are another reason,” says the Singapore Ministry of Health website.
Restrictions have also been imposed in Indonesia. It has been advised not to travel to areas where cases of Covid have been reported. The Indonesian Ministry of Health urged the public to get two doses of the vaccine, wear masks properly, wash hands regularly and stay home if sick. The Straits Times newspaper reports that thermal scanners have been reinstated at some border checkpoints. It includes the Batam ferry terminal and Jakarta’s main international airport.
The number of Covid cases in Malaysia doubled in a week, rising to 6,796 in the week ended December 2, from 3,626 last week. According to the SCMP report, Malaysian authorities said the spread was under control and not straining the healthcare system.
