are called as follows:

The observation period for inflation was set as October 1, 2023 to September 30, 2024.

On December 15, the PRO-GE union continued collective bargaining negotiations for around 110,000 workers and 18,000 apprentices in the metal industry. After seven hours, a conclusion was reached in this third round with the employers. The scope of the collective agreement for the metal trade includes companies from eleven federal guilds of the Chamber of Commerce and includes many different professional groups, including electrical engineering, metal technology, mechatronics and automotive mechanics as well as the group of installers.

Due to inflation, PRO-GE has this year focused on increasing the minimum wages in the collective agreement. The KV minimum wages will therefore rise by 8.5 percent from January 1, 2024. The new minimum wage will be 2,424.45 euros. “For a young skilled worker, this results in an increase of around 220 euros per month,” says PRO-GE chief negotiator Reinhold Binder.

Actual wages will be increased by 8.2 percent. The allowances and expense allowances increase by 8.5 percent. It was also agreed that the overtime premiums for the 11th and 12th hours or following the 50th hour would be increased from 75 percent to 100 percent.

Apprentice incomes are increased gradually over the years. With an increase of 16.5 percent, the apprentice’s income in the first year of training will now be 932 euros. Incomes in the second and third years will be increased by 8.5 percent and in the fourth year by 7.8 percent.

In addition, it was agreed between the social partners that if employees take December 24th and 31st off, they only have to use one day of vacation.

Furthermore, an increase has already been agreed for January 1, 2025. The collectively agreed minimum wages then increase by the rolling inflation rate. The actual wages will be increased by the inflation rate plus 0.5 percent. The observation period for inflation was set as October 1, 2023 to September 30, 2024.

“The overall package with sustainable increases secures the purchasing power of employees and at the same time takes into account the challenging economic situation of many small commercial businesses. It was once once more agreed for apprentices that a climate ticket would be financed by the training company for the first three years of their apprenticeship,” says Binder and points out that this collective agreement regulation is currently unique in Austria.
