This Friday, an investigation carried out by Der Spiegel, Le Monde and The Financial Time shook the Belgian political scene. Indeed, following analysis of numerous messages, it was established that Frank Creyelman, former parliamentarian and member of Vlaams Belang, informed Chinese spies.
The exchanges between the former parliamentarian and Chinese spies demonstrated his dubious relationships and pressure on Frank Creyelman coming from an agent, Daniel Woo. The announcement of this news led to the exclusion of his party, as announced by Tom Van Grieken, president of Vlaams Belang, on X.
Chinese espionage: the Creyelman affair (Vlaams Belang) makes politicians react, “the whole world saw it” regrets Alexander De Croo
But the revelations don’t stop there. Het Nieuwsblad reports that Filip Dewinter, a member of Vlaams Belang, is also linked to Chinese spies. He would thus be part of the same network as Daniel Woo, the agent who commanded Frank Creyelman, as well as Shao Changun. According to several sources, it was even Filip Dewinter who introduced Frank Creyelman to his Chinese connections years ago.
According to Het Nieuwsblad, Filip Dewinter, whose dubious dealings with Russia have already been established, was already linked to Chinese espionage, as a State Security report from 2018 demonstrates. The leaked file concerned a Chinese spy named Shao Changchun. The man operated in Belgium while hiding under the banner of a non-profit cultural organization. The latter was, however, accused of “interference activities”, leading to the expulsion of the undercover Chinese.
The Chinese spy, however, initially succeeded in settling in Belgium thanks to the support of Filip Dewinter. The latter encouraged the establishment of this organization for years, both by convincing the Belgian police and by going to Asia to meet Uzbek, Chinese and Kazakh leaders. Furthermore, when the spy was expelled, Filip Dewinter wanted to intervene.
As for the link between Filip Dewinter and Daniel Woo, it lies in the relationship between Shao Changchun and Woo, as reported by the security services. We do not yet know what fate Tom Van Grieken has in store for Filip Dewinter.
