Already present in Europe with certain models as well as its battery exchange stations which allow them to “recharge” in 5 minutes, Nio is preparing to launch two new brands here: Alps in 2024 and Firefly in 2025. These will market more affordable models, in order to better compete with Tesla and our local manufacturers.

Until a few years ago, no one had ever seen a single Chinese car driving in Europe. But for some time now, many manufacturers from the Middle Kingdom have been trying their luck on our market, with several taking their first steps at the last Paris Motor Show.
A new brand
If BYD had particularly made an impression, others waited a few more months before starting to arrive here. This is for example the case of Nio, which first began its offensive in Norway, with its ES7, ET5 and ET7, as well as with its battery exchange stations. But the firm, whose survival is only due to subsidies from China according to some, wants to go even further.
And this will notably involve the arrival of one or two new brands on European soil. The latter have not yet revealed their final name, but are known under the names Alps and Firefly. But if we still know relatively little regarding them, the first should soon see the light of day and arrive on the Old Continent. In any case, this is what the boss of Nio announces.
William Li indeed spoke with a handful of media ahead of the Nio Day, which will be held on December 24 next. On this occasion, the businessman gave some information on his new Alps brand, which should see the light of day next year. According to the boss, relayed by the British site Autocarit has been a month since the manufacturer’s prototype tests were completed.
Good news, which proves that the launch of this new entity will not take long. The manager explains that in the past, when the tests were completed, the car quickly entered production. However, he specifies that this time it will be slightly different, the manufacturer preferring to wait a little bit. Why ? The mystery remains.
Affordable cars
William Li also indicates that the young Alps brand will launch no less than three models during its initial phase, from 2024. If the prices have not yet been indicated with precision, we know that these cars will be much more affordable than those currently marketed by Nio. Asked regarding this, the CEO simply said that “ you won’t see a Nio model with a price lower than the ET5« .
For the record, the sedan starts around from 47,500 euros, which suggests that Alps cars will be below this price. Which might have allowed them to be eligible for the ecological bonus next year, if the government had not decided to ban it from cars produced in China. Which will also deprive the Tesla Model 3 as well as the MG4.
Later, the company plans to launch a third brand, known by the code name Firefly therefore, which will be even more affordable. The cars that will wear this badge will be designed specifically for the European market and will clearly target manufacturers such as Volkswagen and Renault, which prepare their cars for less than 25,000 euros. Enough to also give the future Tesla Model 2 a cold sweat.
At the same time, Nio is also preparing its arrival in France, while several recruitments have been made for a division dedicated to France. For the moment, nothing more has been confirmed, but it is rumored that these are once more only the two new brands that will be sold here.
