The director of Rawson Hospital Miguel Diaz He retires from his position following 40 years of service at that medical center.
“I was fortunate to lead the management of the hospital for almost 17 years, which is a great satisfaction for me because it is my second home” said Díaz.
“It was a great satisfaction to make many health professional friends and walk these halls for so long,” he added in statements to Chain 3.

“In these 40 years I have had to assist the first patient with HIV, the cholera emergency, new diseases like Covid, emergencies like dengue that did not exist many years ago”Diaz said.
Pandemic
“Having the responsibility of taking care of our staff and everyone was a great pressure, especially because it was an unknown disease and we did not know how it would end. The first days and months were tremendous,” he said.
Regarding those times, he noted that “very strong things were experienced that do not strictly have to do with medical practice but with the impact that the pandemic had on society.”
“At one point we had 60 patients simultaneously on respirators, it was the most dramatic moment; the doctors were passing the guard and crying because 5 or 6 patients had died” Diaz said.

Díaz, who was deputy director of Rawson between 1999 and 2012, and director from 2019 to 2023, said that he will continue to provide care in his private office.
