Thomas Kralinger hands over management of the Kurier Medienhaus to Richard Grasl. The change will take place on January 1, 2024, it said in a release. Kralinger will retain his other role as managing director of Mediaprint – a merger of “Kronen Zeitung” and “Kurier” in the areas of , printing and sales. Grasl has been working as “profil” managing director since the beginning of the year. The news magazine is owned by the Kurier media house.

Kralinger worked as “Kurier” managing director for more than 16 years, starting in 2007. “In the next few months, far-reaching decisions have to be made regarding the long-term direction. I have therefore decided, in good agreement with the owners, to place this task in younger hands,” the 63-year-old media manager was quoted as saying. Kralinger now wants to concentrate “exclusively” on his tasks at Mediaprint. Under him, the Kurier Medienhaus portfolio was expanded to include futurezone.at, film.at, events.at and k.at. A digital subscription was established in 2020.

Grasl was convinced that the Kurier Medienhaus and its brands have the best prerequisites to overcome the challenges of the present: “Now it’s regarding consistently continuing the path of digitalization, customer orientation and quality.” The media industry is facing the “biggest upheaval of all time”. “Managing this is not just a challenge, but a great responsibility for this important institution in our democracy,” said the 50-year-old.

With his move to management, Grasl is giving up his role as deputy. Editor-in-chief of the “Kurier” returns. He said he would remain as managing director of “profil” “for the time being”.

“The strong development of the Kurier media company is closely linked to Thomas Kralinger. Under his leadership, the modernization and digitalization of the ‘Kurier’ was initiated and advanced,” said Erwin Hameseder, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, in tribute to the outgoing managing director. Also Christoph Rüth, deputy. Chairman of the Supervisory Board, thanked Kralinger for his work and “will to shape things”.

Like many other media companies, the Kurier media company is currently struggling with a very tense economic situation. In April, austerity measures and staff cuts were announced.
