New collective employment agreement for hairdressers: That’s what it’s all regarding

There is a new collective employment agreement in the hairdressing industry.

Wages are raised and conditions are improved.

The Federal Council has declared the contract to be generally valid.
A new collective employment agreement for the hairdressing industry will come into force on January 1, 2024. A statement from Unia said: The Unia and Syna unions as well as the CoiffureSUISSE industry association were pleased that the Federal Council had declared the new agreement to be generally binding. The new GAV affects a total of around 11,000 employees in 4,232 hairdressing salons.
“Generally binding” means that the contract now applies to all hairdressers in Switzerland, even if they are not affiliated with Unia or Syna. “This means that the protection of working conditions in the industry will be continued without any gaps,” Unia continued. The GAV also provides for significantly higher minimum wages and combats wage dumping and unfair competition even more effectively.
Specifically, this means that a new wage system will be introduced that will allow minimum wages to rise more quickly, within three years instead of the previous five. The wage structure in the industry now looks like this:

Work-life balance
The GAV not only provides for higher wages, but also better conditions for relaxation and private life. The general vacation entitlement increases by 2.5 days and the entitlement to paternity leave increases to two weeks and three working days.
In addition, according to the contract, wage dumping will be more strictly controlled and sanctioned more harshly in the future. The maximum penalty for employers who err in this regard increases to 25,000 francs. In addition, in the future they will have to bear the costs of controls and procedures “in the event of serious violations and a lack of cooperation”.
