Philippine police crackdown on sex trafficking and online fraud deports 180 Chinese citizens
(AFP, Manila, 14th) Philippine officials announced today that 180 Chinese citizens detained during the operation were deported following police previously launched a raid in the capital Manila (Manila) to crack down on sex trafficking and online fraud syndicates.
Agence France-Presse reported that Philippine police launched a raid in October and found nearly 600 people inside a building, including Chinese, Koreans, Vietnamese and Filipinos.
Authorities said the building was operated by a company with an online gaming license. Inside, police seized sex toys, a massage parlor, multiple karaoke rooms and a restaurant.
Police said they “rescued” a number of women during the operation.
Gilberto Cruz, deputy secretary of the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission, told AFP that the Chinese citizens who were deported did not have work permits and were “engaging in online fraud” in the Philippines.
Cruz said other foreign nationals detained in the operation will be deported in the coming weeks.
