“Covid-19 is here and is making itself felt significantly, with hospitalizations once more”explains Thursday December 14 to franceinfo Benjamin Davido, infectious disease specialist at the Raymond-Poincaré hospital in Garches. “In recent weeks we have once once more observed people doing pharmacy tests and self-tests”explains Benjamin Davido.

In a situation update published WednesdayPublic Health France notes “a continued increase in indicators in town and in hospital among adults and more particularly the elderly” and indicates that “the Sars-CoV2 positivity rate increased in community medicine and hospitals”.

“It’s the big return of the loss of taste and smell, like in 2020, says the doctor. What we see, as we already saw with the other omicron sub-variants, is the possibility among people who have not had a booster vaccination of developing a severe form, of being led to consult the emergency room. It’s a shame because it’s a preventable disease, and one that can be cured if diagnosed early.”

Faced with this new increase, health authorities have reiterated their call for vulnerable people, particularly those over 65, to be vaccinated. “You shouldn’t count the doses of vaccine for Covid, it’s like when you get vaccinated once morest the flu. And it’s not because you’ve had the disease that you can’t catch it once more, it is not an immunogenic disease. This new variant leads to an epidemic resumption because it escapes the immune system”he concludes.
