Researchers at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) in Aargau have taken an important step forward in the field of early cancer diagnostics. Scientists have found a way to detect the presence of tumors by analyzing blood cells, we learned in a press release on Thursday. The reliability rate is 85%. The technique, supported by artificial intelligence, even makes it possible to determine the type of tumor from which the patient suffers.

“This is the first time in the world that someone has achieved this,” assures researcher GV Shivashankar from PSI. Additional tests on 150 people currently in treatment must now be carried out. “We hope that this new method will improve both diagnosis and the success of therapy,” comments Damien Weber, chief physician at PSI.

This discovery would make it possible to detect other types of cancer than those studied and benefit many cancer treatments. Further studies will be carried out to confirm this.
