An honorary graduation ceremony was held for the late Kim Do-won, a first-year student in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Kim Do-won’s parents held back tears as they received an honorary diploma for their son.

According to the Korea Organ Donation Agency, Kim suffered serious brain injuries in a fall accident while returning home in early April 2020. He was immediately taken to the hospital, but eventually became brain dead without regaining consciousness. The bereaved family decided to donate in order to continue Kim’s wish to save people’s lives.

Mr. Kim saved a total of six lives by donating his heart, lungs, liver, left and right kidneys, and pancreas. According to his family, Kim, who was born as the second of two sons and one daughter in Gwangju Metropolitan City, had a bright personality and liked to challenge anything. In particular, Mr. Kim said that he had developed a dream of becoming a virus-related medicine doctor or the Secretary-General of the World Health Organization (WHO).

Kim’s father said, “During the 14 days of fighting the disease, meeting for 10 minutes twice a day was the happiest moment,” and added, “I still can’t forget the warmth of my son’s hands at that time.”
