The Gaza Ministry of Health said Wednesday that Israeli forces opened fire on patient rooms at a hospital in the northern Gaza Strip, raising concerns for the safety of 12 children in pediatric care.
Spokesman Ashraf Al-Qudra said in a statement, “The occupation forces tightened the siege and targeting of Kamal Adwan Hospital and opened fire on patients’ rooms and courtyards.”
According to Al-Qudra, “We fear that 12 children in child care will die as a result of leaving them without milk and without life support.”
The Israeli army did not immediately respond to AFP’s request for comment on this. Agence France-Presse was unable to independently verify this information.
On Tuesday, Al-Qudra announced that Israeli forces stormed Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip, and gathered the men in the square.
Al-Qudra confirmed in a statement on Wednesday that Israeli forces were detaining hospital director Ahmed Al-Kahlot and a number of staff members, noting that they were subjected to “interrogation under torture and deprived of food and drink,” while a number of them were later released.
Israeli forces had previously stormed other hospitals in the Gaza Strip, including Al-Shifa Hospital.
According to the United Nations, there is currently only one hospital in northern Gaza capable of receiving patients.
On October 7, Hamas launched a surprise attack on the Israeli border towns with the Gaza Strip, killing 1,200 people, most of them civilians, most of whom died on the first day, according to the Israeli authorities.
Israel responded by bombing the Gaza Strip and launched a ground operation on the 27th of the same month. More than 18,000 people were killed in the Israeli bombing in the Gaza Strip.
