Islamabad: A special court has indicted Pakistan’s former prime minister Imran Khan and former foreign minister Shah Muhammad Qureshi in the case of violating the Official Secrets Act. The judge read out the charge sheet to those who were sentenced to 3 years in prison in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi in a corruption case. Both have denied the charges. This is the second time they have been charged in this case.

On October 23, the charge sheet was quashed by the Islamabad High Court due to procedural lapses. This is a case related to the disclosure of an official message sent by the Pakistani ambassador to the US last year at a party rally just before he left the post of prime minister. This is a crime punishable by up to 14 years in prison if convicted. The move casts a shadow over Imran’s ambitions to contest the general elections in February.
