Saint-Eustache Arena Accident: 12-Year-Old Hockey Player in Critical Condition

A young 12-year-old hockey player is between life and death following receiving a puck in the throat during a training session on Tuesday at the Saint-Eustache arena.

The tragic accident occurred around 7 p.m., while some parents were in the stands of one of the rinks at the Walter-Buswell complex. In circumstances which will have to be clarified, the teenager received a washer in the throat by accident. This was thrown by a teammate.

Police officers and paramedics arrived on scene within moments. The young athlete was rushed to hospital, located two kilometers from the arena, and resuscitation maneuvers were carried out tirelessly. Once in the emergency room, paramedics and staff members managed to get his pulse back.

However, his condition does not bode well at the moment. He is currently being kept alive artificially in hospital, according to our sources.

“We are working jointly with the city to offer the necessary support to members who witnessed it,” said Jean-Philippe Labrèche, president of the Saint-Eustache Minor Hockey Association. We are aware that the emotional impact is immense.”

Contacted by The newspaper, the Saint-Eustache police department simply indicated that an investigation was underway to determine the circumstances of the incident, although there does not appear to be a criminal element at the moment. The City declined to comment.
