The English-speaking media MacRumors has just published very clear renderings, apparently as close as possible to the design of the iPhone 16 on which Apple is reportedly working at the moment. There is a major change on the back: that of the photo sensor. By comparing it to the arrangement of the equivalent module of the iPhone 15, we see that the different objectives are aligned with the new model, whereas today they are arranged in a staggered manner. Of course, the manufacturer has not confirmed the file: its plans generally remain confidential until the official presentation, which takes place at the end of the year.
In all likelihood, future iPhone 16s should also be equipped with a new – or at least renamed – processor. Indeed, for several generations, Apple has had the habit of offering the processor from the Pro models of the previous collection to the basic versions of the next one. However, the iPhone 15 Pro chip was named “A17 Pro” – a nomenclature which does not really fit with that of the classic editions, as you will have understood.

A very original code name
Still according to the sources with whom MacRumors journalists spoke in order to obtain this information, Apple would have chosen a code name for the secret development of its iPhone 16. The project would thus have taken the name DeLorean, named following the famous automobile manufacturer that caused a lot of ink to flow in the 1980s and following the theatrical release of the first episode of Back to the future.
Code names galore
This code name is not the first to leak from the Apple company. We know that the AirTag chip, a tracker connected via Bluetooth allowing you to geolocate lost belongings, had been named Durian internally, following the eponymous fruit. More recently, we can also cite the case of the visionOS operating system, which equips the Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset. The platform would thus have taken the name Borealis or Oak, internally. Finally, let’s remember that for a time, the Apple Car was titled Project Titan by the specialist press. An autonomous and electric car that Apple might soon unveil, but whose future remains uncertain for the moment.
