These are boxes that we all have in our medicine cabinets : the anti-emetics Vogalib and Vogalene, the cough syrups Toplexil and Clarix, Smecta, Voltarène, Maxilase… Well they are part of the blacklist of the medical journal Prescrire, which has just been published .
Unfavorable benefit/risk balance
A list drawn up, like every year for the past 12 years, to point out the medications to avoid during the treatment process. And these are considered “more dangerous than useful”, given their benefit/risk balance, which is unfavorable, according to the review. However, most of these medications are available over the counter at the pharmacy. According to Prescribe, “clinical effectiveness” of these medications “is not demonstrated“. And they even side effects that can be serious.
Le Maxilase, a placebo
Maxilase, for example, is judged to have no demonstrated effectiveness beyond that of a placebo, according to the review, even though it exposes people to sometimes serious skin or allergic disorders. Same thing for Vogalene and Vogalib which can cause heart rhythm disturbances, strokes and sudden deaths. Finally, Smecta, which is widely used to remedy intestinal disorders, has a natural presence of lead which notably causes “neurological, hematological, renal and cardiovascular toxic effects“.

Cold medications not recommended by the ANSM because they are potentially dangerous to health
As for cold treatments, the review also advises once morest most over-the-counter decongestants : Actifed, Humex, Rhinadvil, Nurofen, Dolirhume, they are all part of the list, because they expose you to cardiovascular disorders which can be serious or even fatal, according to Prescrire.
To continue treatment without exposing yourself to risks, the review recommends turning to other options for cases where “drug treatment” would appear “desirable”.
