On the 13th, the prosecution investigating the ‘suspicion of money envelopes’ at the Democratic Party of Korea’s 2021 national convention began to secure the identity of former representative Song Young-gil.

On this day, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office Anti-Corruption Investigation Division 2 (Chief Prosecutor Choi Jae-hoon) accused former CEO Song of violating the Political Fund Act and the Act on Aggravated Punishment in Specific Economy in relation to donations to the ‘Research Institute for Peace and Living Problems’ (Muksayeon) (bribery). , announced that they had requested a preliminary arrest warrant on charges of violating the Political Parties Act and the Political Fund Act in connection with distributing money envelopes to the primary campaign.

Prosecutors believe that former Representative Song was involved in the process of distributing a total of 94 million won to active National Assembly members, regional headquarters heads, etc. from March to May 2021, ahead of the Democratic Party’s National Convention. In addition, it is reported that former CEO Song received 305 million won from January 2020 to August 2021 from a company run by former Yeosu Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Park Yong-ha.

It is known that former CEO Song appeared at the prosecution as a suspect on the 8th and exercised his right to refuse to make a statement while being interrogated. The prosecution believed that detention was necessary considering former CEO Song’s attitude toward the investigation. Even when considering fairness with independent lawmaker Yoon Kwan-seok and former Korea Audit Association Chairman Kang Rae-gu, who were previously arrested and indicted, it was reportedly judged that the arrest and investigation of former CEO Song, the ultimate beneficiary, was inevitable.
