Netflix Removes Cheapest Pricing Plan: Controversial Decision Sparks Debate

After increasing its prices just two months ago, Netflix is removing its cheapest pricing plan. A controversial decision that will probably get people talking.

Once once more, Netflix makes a decision that risks causing debate. After removing the Essential offer in Canada, the United States and England earlier this year, it is French subscribers who will no longer have the possibility of subscribing to the cheapest ad-free subscription offered by the firm.

Until now, Netflix offered a Standard plan with advertisements, at €5.99 per month. This was the cheapest offer for those who tolerate pages. For the most impatient, there was the Essential offer, priced at €10.99/month and allowing you to watch films and series in 720p. It is now no more, new subscribers must then turn to either the offer with , or to the Standard plan, still costing €2.50 more per month than the Essential, or €13.49 .

But let current customers rest assured. If they were already subscribed using the Essential offer, they will remain (for the moment) under the same regime and at the same price as before, i.e. €10.99. Affected customers also receive the following message: “The Essential offer is no longer offered. If you change your offer, you will no longer be able to return to Essential.”

Belgium does not seem to be affected by the modification for the moment, even if we have little doubt as to Netflix’s intentions.
