Broad solidarity at Christmas for needy people in Vienna
Vienna (OTS/SPW) – A very special kind of contemplative Christmas, organized by the Kulturfreunde Ottakring, took place for the 26th time on Tuesday in the Wiener Stadthalle. More than 1,000 people with or without an address celebrated the “Festival for the Unaddressed” together with warm food, drinks and cookies.
Despite numerous institutions for homeless people, the situation for those affected is anything but easy. For this reason, the Addressless Festival is organized every year with a lot of passion and can take place once more thanks to the loyal sponsors. In addition to a free hot meal and drinks, visitors also received gift bags containing food, clothing and hygiene products. The aim of the festival this year was once once more to reach people affected by poverty as low-threshold as possible and to provide them with opportunities for help and donations.
A very special thank you goes to the many committed sponsors and organizations who have accompanied the festival for many years, such as the partners Bank Austria, the Stadthalle Wien, Interspar, Spar Rodoljub Savic eU, Ströck, the municipal departments 48 and 42, Wojnar’s, the Volkshilfe Vienna, the Wiener Stadtwerke, the SPÖ Vienna and the SPÖ Rathausklub. A big thank you goes out to you and the tireless volunteers!
“The Festival of the Addressless is an impressive sign of solidarity and cohesion in Vienna. We can be very proud of that. We owe the fact that the contemplative Christmas festival can take place every year to many volunteers as well as socially committed companies and organizations. Especially in times of multiple crises, it is important to support those who need help!” emphasized the Rudolfsheim-Fünfhausen district leader Dietmar Baurecht and the Ottakringer district leader Franz Prokop.
The organizers Bernhard Häupl, Florian Saurwein and Verena Schweiger said: “We are pleased to be able to take part in the festival for homeless people once more this year. The festival has developed into an institution since 1998 and has become an integral part of the pre-Christmas calendar of events in Vienna. We are happy to be able to make a small contribution and enable some people with and without an address to spend a few cozy, pre-Christmas hours with small gifts in the town hall,” said the organizing team.
