Ben Carpenter is a man from Huddersfield, a town in the United Kingdom, who decided to dedicate his life to helping children in need. He adopted his first child at the age of 21, then subsequently welcomed five other children with specific needs as relayed by our colleagues at the Daily Mail. He adopted his sixth child in April 2020.

A consecrated life for children in need

Ben is an altruistic and selfless man who wanted to dedicate himself to helping children with disabilities. Ben’s first adopted child, named Jack, has autism. The second child is named Ruby and has special needs. Lily, the third adopted, is profoundly deaf. The fourth child, Joseph, suffers from Down syndrome.

Teddy, the fifth child adopted by Ben, suffered from a rare genetic disorder called Cornelia de Lange syndrome which is characterized, among other things, by facial dysmorphism. However, he died in November 2019 from sepsis and not from his illness. Sepsis is an acute state of disruption of the body’s response to infection, which may be bacterial, fungal or other in origin. This is what causes organ failure.

Following this tragic event, Ben decided to take a break from adoption to give himself time to grieve properly.

The following year, Ben adopted his sixth child, Louis, aged two, suffering from cerebral palsy and blindness.

Adopt rather than have biological children

Ben would rather adopt than have a biological child. Her desire is to help the most vulnerable children, in need of a loving and caring home. He was able to create a real loving family.

All of Ben’s children have a brotherly relationship. Besides, this young man always dreamed of having a big family. Ben believes his home is overflowing with love and joy. This pleasant environment helps its children to flourish. With emotion, Ben says, “I often imagine myself attending their respective weddings.” Ben changed these children’s lives, but he believes they changed his too.

How to adopt a child with specific needs in France?

The adoption of a disabled child, whether in France or abroad, necessarily requires an application for approval. It must be made to the General Council of the department where the family wishing to adopt the child resides. According to the French Adoption Agency, the adoption project is carried out with the help of AFA doctors. An interview with the host family makes it possible to judge the latter’s ability to adopt a disabled or sick child.
