ANKARA: All league matches in Turkey have been canceled following a referee was beaten up by a club president. The incidents took place immediately following the end of the Ankaraguku-Recezper Turkish Super League match at Eriaman Stadium on Monday.

Receper scored the equalizer with just seconds remaining as hosts Ankaragucu cruised to victory. After the final whistle, Ankaragucu president Farooq Koza rushed onto the field and punched match referee Halil Umut Meler in the face and head. With this, the referee fell to the ground. In the match, each player of both the teams was given a red card.

Farooq Khosa is believed to have been angered by the referee’s decisions and the equalizing goal. Halil and Khosa have been admitted to the hospital. It is believed that the club president will be taken into custody by the police as soon as the treatment is completed.

The matches have been canceled indefinitely by the Turkish Football Federation. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned the beating of the referee.
